The use of biotechnology in the agricultural sector allows obtaining biofertilizers capable of maintaining crop productivity and quality, while increasing soil fertility and health, thus contributing to its biological regeneration.
Speaker: Monica Partridges. Ceres Biotics
Mónica Perdices, Director of R+D+i of Ceres Biotics, It will present the company's lines of research that are leading to the consolidation of its own strain collection deposited in official culture collections, adapted to local conditions and based fundamentally on endophytic microorganisms.
Relationship between crops and their microbiome
The research program developed by Ceres Biotics, which has the Innovative SME seal, is based on the in-depth study of the complex interactions between plant-soil-microorganisms. The high specificity of some microorganisms has allowed the isolation of very diverse endophytic strains, all of them selected from soils and agricultural crops from different areas of the peninsula.
These endophytic strains undergo an exhaustive screening process that allows selecting the most effective ones based on the benefits they bring, both for crops and for the conditions present in Spanish soils. For this reason, after the corresponding in vitro tests, the studies are completed in the field, observing their behavior in a real agricultural system.
Production of biofertilizers in Spain
Ceres Biotics is specialized in creating sustainable solutions based on beneficial endophytic strains as an alternative and/or complement to conventional chemical fertilizers. The use of biotechnology in the agricultural sector allows obtaining biofertilizers capable of maintaining crop productivity and quality, while increasing soil fertility and health, thus contributing to its biological regeneration.
To achieve its objectives, Ceres Biotics has a multidisciplinary team made up of Agronomists, Chemical Engineers, PhDs in Microbiology and Biotechnology, with extensive experience in the agricultural sector, in continuous contact with the field and willing to share with farmers and technicians the challenge of sustainability. Its headquarters in San Fernando de Henares (Madrid) has a complete and recently inaugurated bioproduction plant and microbiology laboratory that allow comprehensive monitoring of the biofertilizer production process.
In conclusion, Ceres Biotics biofertilizers represent an alternative with multiple benefits for an agriculture that is increasingly technical and respectful of the environment. It is a real challenge for Ceres Biotics to continue improving crop productivity and regenerating soil health.
