They discover new microorganisms for agriculture that will face drought

Facing the International Microbiome 2023 Congress, which will be held in Murcia on June 7 and 8, the General Director of the Trichodex company, Khalid Akdi, provided details on the surprising progress achieved with the discovery of new microorganisms and the development of technologies that will completely change the way we face the challenges of agricultural production.

The general director of Trichodex (Grupo Fertiberia), Khalid Akdi, will be one of the featured speakers at Microbioma 2023, the prestigious scientific congress that will take place in Murcia on June 7, 8 and 9 in virtual format. With more than 30 years of experience in the study of microorganisms for agriculture, Akdi spoke with Agromarketing about the advances in the study of microorganisms as part of the ecosystem, the new paradigms and challenges in agriculture.

Trichodex, as a platinum sponsor of the congress, has opted for Microbioma 2023 due to its scientific-technical importance and its reputation in the sector. “The event offers a platform to share knowledge, advances and discoveries in the field of the microbiome, as well as establish links with experts, researchers and practitioners from around the world,” said Akdi.

Asked about the integration of Trichodex into Grupo Fertiberia, Akdi stated that "it has been successful, allowing the group to lead the sector of innovative solutions for plant nutrition through biotechnology." It should be noted that Trichodex has been a pioneer in the study of microbiology applied to agriculture, developing biotechnological solutions based on microorganisms and their secondary metabolites. Its product portfolio includes biostimulants, biofertilizers, bioprotectors and bionutritionales, which help protect crops against biotic and abiotic stress, increasing crop production.

During the interview, Khalid Akdi highlighted the qualitative changes in the study of microorganisms in agriculture, "where they have gone from analyzing them in isolation in laboratories to considering them as part of microbial consortia that coexist with plants." This understanding of the plant microbiome has led to the development of technologies such as biofertilizers, biostimulants, and biopesticides, which apply complex mixtures of beneficial microorganisms to improve plant growth and health more effectively.

“Challenging drought: Key microbiome in adaptation to water stress”

The global scarcity of water resources, together with the salinization of the soil, have become abiotic factors that limit the development of plants. It is estimated that by the year 2050, around 50% of arable land will be affected by these types of stress, according to data from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

In this context, Khalid Akdi will present his paper at the Microbiome 2023 Scientific Congress, entitled 'Challenging drought: key microbiome in adaptation to water stress'. His talk will take place on Wednesday, June 7 at 12:00 noon in the Víctor Villegas Auditorium in Murcia.

Khalid Akdi's presentation at the congress will focus on adaptation to water stress, as an important challenge in the global context of resource scarcity and soil salinization. Akdi will address how the microbiome can be key in overcoming this type of stress, presenting advances and solutions in the field of agriculture. His presentation is expected to surprise attendees with new perspectives and insights into the importance of microorganisms in plant adaptation to water stress.

Likewise, Trichodex will be presented at this edition of the Microbioma 2023 congress with an innovative and diversified portfolio, committed to scientific research and the development of sustainable solutions for agriculture. In this sense, Akdi expressed: "We are proud to contribute to agricultural sustainability and productivity through solutions based on the study and use of microorganisms. The objective is to promote agricultural practices that are more respectful with the environment, reducing the use of agrochemicals and optimizing the use of natural resources”.

Connect – Learn – Experience

Microbiome 2023 promises to be an exciting and enriching event, where experts and professionals from around the world will come together to explore the potential of microorganisms and share the latest advances in this area. The congress will take place in person at the Víctor Villegas Auditorium in Murcia, on June 7 and 8. Meanwhile, on June 9 there will be a fully online day that will be broadcast live for the whole world. With their prominent presence at the global event, Trichodex and Grupo Fertiberia reaffirm their commitment to scientific research and their leadership in the field of biotechnology applied to agriculture.
