The presentation is framed in the situation that has been created by the limitations in the use of chemical control agents for the control of pests and diseases that are imposed by the different national and community governments, together with the additional limitations adopted by the distribution chains to the use of certain active materials, due to the growing concern of consumers.<\/p>\n

This is coupled with the resistance to many of them for inappropriate use, which have caused farmers to see limited tools with which they have traditionally been counting in this fight.<\/p>\n

The presentation of Francisco Javier Calvo will affect the effectiveness of biological control as an alternative method, based on the release of parasitoids and predators, as well as the application of entomopathogenic organisms, methods that, in addition to being effective, are environmentally sustainable allowing the production of fruits and vegetables free of chemical residues.<\/p>\n

Calvo will give a review of the cases in which this strategy has been used successfully, obtaining optimal results against pests and target diseases, when with other systems they had not obtained them, and the possibilities offered by microorganisms to be used for control of pathogens and pests, expanding the range of harmful organisms that can be controlled biologically.<\/p>\n
